Extend engine life with Knock Down Filters
Clean fuel is necessary for engine performance. Clean fuel enhances combustion, safety and
reliability, while reducing maintenance and downtime. Clean fuel extends engine life. Three
basic elements; water, dirt, and microbes may contaminate fuel. Traditional filtration must
also address microbial contamination. This is where Knock Down comes to the rescue.

Knock Down controls microbial contamination in diesel fuel, lube and hydraulic oils and
other light distillates.
The Knock Down range of equipment is the next generation of fuel & lube oil conditioning
units to control the problem of microbiological contamination with the following new benefits:
| • |
New Direct Flow |
| • |
Through Design |
| • |
Self Cleaning |
| • |
Maintenance Free |
| • |
Microbial Contamination |
Outbreaks of microbial contamination of fuels develop periodically and can often be traced
to poor quality supplies coming on to the open market. Modern refining techniques, storage
and transportation systems all contribute to contamination of the fuel.
| • |
Free water must be present for biodegrading of the fuel to start together with a suitable
carbon source |
| • |
Fuel contains vast reserves of readily carbon and fuel additives particularly those
containing nitrogen and phosphorus will enhance microbial growth. |
This in turn will accelerate the process of biodegradation.
Microbial growth leads to fuel starvation due to a cellular product (Jelly like slime)
produced by the organisms, blocking filters. Mechanical (organic and inorganic acids) damage
from contaminated fuel frequently occurs to the fuel injection equipment, i.e. injection
nozzles, fuel pump. With injectors normally suffering first with corrosion damage to needles,
which will result in fuel leakage past the needle, this type of acidic corrosion is not
always readily recognised as microbial.
 |
Microbes are very small single cell organisms, which is a membrane filled with cellular
fluid and electrolytes. Their metabolism and reproduction depend upon an electrical balance
over this outer cell membrane, any disturbance of this delicate balance is detrimental to
the cells life sustaining functions. The process of transferring kinetic energy into electrical
energy by means of a magnetic field is known as induction. Knock Down provides the magnetic
conditioning chamber which causes induction to occur in microbes suspended in the fuel and
passing through the circular flow path of the Knock Down. This action disrupts the electrical
balance of the cell membrane, preventing it from colonising and producing the corrosive
acids and the cellular slime that coats tanks and blocks fuel filters.
 |
Prevents blocked filters, injectors and fuel pumps operate more efficiently for longer,
engines run more reliably and efficiently, maintenance and down time is reduced, which =
cost savings. There are no bowls to remove for cleaning as with earlier models, making the
Knock Down easy to install in the fuel line between the bunkers and day tank or day tank and
primary filters. With no maintenance, no electrical connection, no moving parts and self
cleaning Knock Down is:
The only real long term answer to microbiological contamination of fluids
